INTRODUCING OUR NEW SUP Boards
A Game-Changer for Kilcullen Canoe Club!
We’re thrilled to share some exciting news about the recent addition to our fleet at Kilcullen Canoe Club -
brand-new SUP boards, made possible through funding from Kildare Sports Partnership, matched by the club itself!
These boards have already become a staple of our paddling adventures on the River Liffey since their arrival.
They’re perfect for exploring the serene stretches of the river, cruising to our picturesque little rapids, and paddling back for a refreshing and fun workout. Since introducing these SUP boards, the club has seen incredible enthusiasm from members and the local community.
We’re proud to announce that we recently held a SUP assessment, and eight members achieved their Level 2 SUP certificate! This is a fantastic milestone, showcasing the growing skills and confidence of our paddlers.
We’re so grateful for the support that made these boards a reality. They’ve not only enhanced our paddling experience but also brought more opportunities for training, development, and sheer enjoyment on the water.
If you haven’t had a chance to try them out yet, what are you waiting for? Come join us and see why everyone is loving these SUP boards! Stay tuned for more updates and events as we continue to make the most of this amazing addition to our club. 🌊
Let’s keep paddling forward!

JULY SUMMER CAMP
This July, the girls of Kilcullen Canoe Club dove into an unforgettable experience at the GoPaddle Academy summer camp.
From July 16th to 19th in the scenic waters of Clashganny, six of our lucky girls spent four action-packed days sharpening their kayaking skills and working toward the prestigious Level 3 Kayak Skills award. This camp was made possible thanks to funding we received from Kildare Sports Partnership through the "Her Moves" campaign. This support allowed us to sponsor the camp, ensuring that our female members had the opportunity to participate and develop their skills in an empowering environment.
Guided by experienced instructor and tutelage by Susan Doyle, the girls honed their techniques and built confidence on the water. The camp wasn’t just about mastering paddling skills—it was also about fostering teamwork and camaraderie among the participants. And what an experience it was! The camp offered a supportive and exhilarating environment where every stroke mattered. The girls didn’t just learn the technical ins and outs of kayaking—they also built unbreakable bonds with their fellow paddlers. By the end of the camp, their paddling skills weren’t the only things that had grown; their confidence had soared, and their love for the sport was stronger than ever.
Thanks to the funding KCC helped on setting some of our girls on a path to become not just skilled kayakers, but confident, empowered adventurers on the water. So, here’s to the girls of Kilcullen Canoe Club—may they continue to paddle their way to new heights, with the memories of this summer camp fueling their passion for many more adventures to come!

The annual liffey descent
As the excitement of the 2024 Liffey Descent begins to settle, we want to take a moment to reflect on what an amazing weekend it was. The weather was scorching, and we want to extend hearty congratulations to all our paddlers who braved the heat, tackled the low enough water levels, and powered through the long distance under the blazing sun.
A special shoutout goes to our outstanding trio who clinched victory once again in the Open Canoe Triple. Anthony Whiteley, our polo coach, along with Donnchadh, our junior slalom coach, and Sean Ansell, slashed three minutes off their previous time, crossing the finish line in an impressive 3.02.51 to claim the top spot in their category. We couldn't be prouder of their achievement!!

We also want to highlight Michael O’Farrell, who took second place in the GP class paddling a Gola and clinched first place in the “Over 49 GP” category! Next year, we hope he is eyeing up the K1s category!!!
And how about our junior committee leader; Erica's stellar performance? Placing third in the Junior Classes (K1C) on Saturday with a time of 4.11.09 – absolutely fantastic! 👏
In the GP category, they had an absolute blast and showed the best camaraderie with Peter, James, Ann, Adrian, Siobhan, Ben, Steve, and Ross all crossing the finish line!
Mike and Deirdre also joined in the fun, helping with the rescue on the sluice weir and teaming up with the Balto, Lucan and Trim Clubs (and possibly more!) 🚣♂️👏
To our amazing juniors who took part in the Sunday fun of the Junior Liffey Descent – big shoutout to Ciara & Keith, Jack & Mea, Freyja, and last but certainly not least, Rian! We couldn't be prouder of you all! 🌟The teamwork displayed by our juniors was truly impressive, with everyone lending a helping hand. Special congratulations to Rian for clinching first place in the Open Canadian category, and to Jack & Mea for fearlessly tackling the T2 and emerging as champions! You're all champions in our eyes, bravely facing the heat and the weirs. Stories being above our paygrade for the juniors, we wish you a sincere well done! 🎉
As the excitement from the 2024 Liffey Descent begins to fade, we can't help but reminisce about what an amazing weekend it was! We're already eagerly anticipating next year's event. Let the training begin! 🚣♂️💪
