Kilcullen Canoe Club is running a Kayak Skills course starting on Tuesday evening 20 May. The course will be held at the KCC Clubhouse in Kilcullen. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Level 2 Skills Award from Canoeing Ireland.
This course is a basic introduction to the sport of kayaking. The course programme covers Canoeing Ireland’s Level 2 Kayak Skills syllabus. The course is suitable for total beginners or for participants who have some previous experience. The course will run every Tuesday evening from 20 May to 24 June from 19.00 to 21.00. The Level 2 assessment will take place on the final evening. Each course introduces participants to basic boat handling skills along with the necessary safety and rescue skills needed for paddling in a flat-water environment. This is a practical, water-based course and all participants must be able to swim. You should wear sports clothing that doesn’t get heavy when wet (e.g. running/cycling/football clothing), a light rain jacket if it’s wet/windy and old runners. Bring a towel and a FULL change of clothing. The course fee includes club membership for the remainder of the year, as well as Canoeing Ireland membership.
