Well done Maureen on the recognition, and thank you too to all those others who made it happen including Jenny and Joe with Her Sport, video collaborators, and our previous club secretary Sinead. A great weekend for the club, with Kilcullen Canoe Club Co-hosting the 2nd ranking race of the Ribadesella series with @athyrowingcanoeing on the river Barrow. It's easy to have a great day with blue skies, lots of competitors and great volunteers. On the other side of Leinster we had 2 of our junior teams competing at the @mullingarcanoepolo junior competition. Both teams picking up wins and smiles. A big thank you to the organizers for a great day We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that our long-standing treasurer, Maureen, has been honored as a top three finalist for the Her Sport Community Award!
Her incredible journey with Kilcullen Canoe Club began all the way back in 1969, when a free minibus to the Curragh swimming pool inspired her to dive in - literally! Although she only intended to learn how to swim, she ended up forging a lifelong passion for kayaking that’s led her through countless races and adventures. Even today, you’ll still find her paddling in her beloved K boat! This year, Maureen passes on the torch as treasurer, after many dedicated years of keeping our club in safe financial hands. Standing beside her Saturday night with Darragh, Padraic, Mary and Sinéad was a privilege beyond words, especially as we celebrated her well-deserved recognition. Hearing her memories of shared car journeys and checking off new counties visited with the KCC team was truly special. Here’s to our Maureen - an absolute legend in our community and an irreplaceable member of the KCC family! |
